The first record that could be seen was dated February 16, 1863. Peter Bergmann was at that time the treasurer of the school fund and his bond was $6,000. There were then five school districts.
In October 1915, a census was taken of the school children and they numbered as follows: District No. 1, 150 pupils; District No. 2, 137 pupils; District No. 3, 199 pupils; District No. 4, 150 pupils; District No. 5, 65 pupils, thus making the total, 701 pupils. In 1883, the census of the town school children was: District No. 1, 394; District No. 2, 206; District No. 3, 218; District No. 4, 425; District No. 5, 277, making the total 1,520.
