Drafting and amending the Fair Housing Ordinance, 1967-1969
By the end of summer 1967, a draft of a fair housing law for Skokie had been created by the Skokie Human Relations Commission (SHRC), and the end of the year was dominated by campaigns to get the ordinance passed, which it was on January 1, 1968 (with a federal fair housing law being passed later that year). Throughout 1968 and into 1969, the commission worked on amending the legislation.
