Handwritten note by Heather, Skokie Public Library Solar Eclipse Party Time Capsule, August 21, 2017
Description
Handwritten note on 4 x 6 index card in blue pen by Heather for the Skokie Public Library Solar Eclipse Party Time Capsule. Just after noon on Monday, August 21, 2017, the Skokie, Illinois community joined others across the United States in viewing the astronomical event of the year: the solar eclipse. The library provided 300 free, safe viewing glasses for participants—a number dwarfed by the 1,123 people who ultimately participated. Participants were invited to write notes for watchers of the next solar eclipse to take place in the continental United States on Monday, April 8, 2024.
Transcript of card: “Hi, I'm Heather and it’s my first time seeing the eclipse and it’s August 21, 2017. I'm going into 4th grade and I'm excited to see the solar eclipse.”
