<p>Bertha M. Rosche (1889-1961), was the first full-time librarian and director of the Niles Center Free Library, which would later become the Skokie Public Library in Skokie, Illinois. Rosche was hired to work at the Niles Center Free Library in 1937 and retired in 1956. During her tenure, she directed the move from the library’s premises in rooms in the Municipal Building (now Village Hall) to 4913 Oakton Street and then the expansion next door to include 4915 Oakton Street. She oversaw the referendum supporting a tax-supported public library in 1941.</p>

This poster shows the population distribution in Skokie in 1945, 1955 and 1964 using maps and aerial photographs from 1928 and 1964. The population grew from 9,570 in 1945 to 67,895 in 1964. The largest concentrations of people appear to be near transportation, both the Edens Expressway and the Skokie Swift L Line (the Northshore Railway).

Architectural Drawings for Edwin T. Klehm Residence
Architectural drawings for Edwin T. Klehm home, which was located at the Northwest corner of Oakton Street and Floral Avenue in Niles Center, Illinois (Skokie), until it was torn down in 1959. The home was the first to have indoor plumbing, powered by windmill, and the first to have electricity. The highly detailed drawings show all exterior views of the house including the front, back, sides, and roof. There are also interior floor plans for the entire house, including the first and second floors, the attic and the basement.
