Bertha M. Rosche (1889-1961), was the first full-time librarian and director of the Niles Center Free Library, which would later become the Skokie Public Library in Skokie, Illinois. Rosche was hired to work at the Niles Center Free Library in 1937 and retired in 1956. During her tenure, she directed the move from the library’s premises in rooms in the Municipal Building (now Village Hall) to 4913 Oakton Street and then the expansion next door to include 4915 Oakton Street. She oversaw the referendum supporting a tax-supported public library in 1941.
