Title
Handwritten note by Sofia A., Skokie Public Library Solar Eclipse Party Time Capsule, August 21, 2017
Description
Handwritten note on 4 x 6 index card in pencil with drawing of sun and moon by Sofia A. for the Skokie Public Library Solar Eclipse Party Time Capsule. Just after noon on Monday, August 21, 2017, the Skokie, Illinois community joined others across the United States in viewing the astronomical event of the year: the solar eclipse. The library provided 300 free, safe viewing glasses for participants—a number dwarfed by the 1,123 people who ultimately participated. Participants were invited to write notes for watchers of the next solar eclipse to take place in the continental United States on Monday, April 8, 2024.
Transcript of card: “Hello from 2017! The solar eclipse was totally Awesome and It looked like a crescent moon was on fire but it was the Sun. It was really cool! Speaking of 2017 I can't wait for the new iPhone 8 and virtual reality. I hope you have jet packs ‘cause we've been waiting for flying cars and self-driving cars! – Sofia Ali”
