About the collection

In May 1998, the Skokie Public Library received funding from the Illinois State Library to digitize its collection of newspaper clippings related to the attempted neo-Nazi march in the late 1970s.

Our collection includes digital images of more than 200 articles from local newspapers, which we were given permission to scan and make available online.

Over time our collection has grown to include:

  • Audio recordings of the Village Board Meetings
  • Personal papers from Mayor Albert J. Smith
  • Personal papers from Rabbi Neil Brief
  • Reverend Phyllis Koehnline's memoir of the time
  • Two films: Echoes of a Nightmare (1987), and Memories of a March (2002)
